Wholesale Direct Metals Review
Short on time? The essentials
- Legal name Wholesale Direct Metals, Inc. Corporate mailing address 2930 Westwood Blvd, Suite 100, Rancho Park, CA 90064. Customer service phone (866) 925-6626 and sales email sales@wholesaledirectmetals.com (source: wholesaledirectmetals.com home page, checked July 2026).
- The home page states protection of client savings for over 15 years. The most recent captured footer carries a 2023 copyright line, implying a founding of about 2008 or 2009 if the 15 year claim is read against the capture date (source: wholesaledirectmetals.com home page, checked July 2026 via Wayback capture dated August 2024).
- Zero IRA cost lines are quantified in dollars on the captured Wholesale Direct Metals pages. The account setup fee, the annual custodian fee, the annual storage fee, the account minimum, the coin by coin dealer spread, and the written buy back spread are absent from every captured page (source: wholesaledirectmetals.com home and FAQ pages, checked July 2026).
- The FAQ names Delaware Depository as the storage facility. Insurance is described as underwritten by Lloyds of London through the depository, not through Wholesale Direct Metals directly (source: wholesaledirectmetals.com/faq/, checked July 2026).
- The captured FAQ contains the phrase "your Lear IRA team member" in the section on required minimum distribution processing. Lear Capital is a separate California dealer. This wording indicates FAQ text was drawn from a Lear Capital source and not proofread out before publish (source: wholesaledirectmetals.com/faq/, Wayback capture dated May 2024).
- No self-directed IRA custodian is named on the captured Wholesale Direct Metals pages. Under Internal Revenue Code Section 408, a precious metals IRA requires a qualified custodian, and the missing name on the marketing site is a paperwork gap a Texas reader should close in writing (source: irs.gov Publication 590-A, checked July 2026).
- The retail order minimum for a bank wire purchase is $2,500, per the captured FAQ. This is a retail floor, not an IRA account minimum (source: wholesaledirectmetals.com/faq/, checked July 2026).
- An SEC EDGAR full text search for the phrase "wholesale direct metals" returned one filing on July 2026 that references the phrase inside an unrelated Redwood Scientific Technologies S-1 document from 2016. No filing associated the phrase with an enforcement action against the company (source: efts.sec.gov, checked July 2026).
- The BBB profile for Wholesale Direct Metals could not be fetched by plain HTTP on July 2026 because bbb.org returned an anti bot 403 response. Open the profile in a normal browser and read the letter grade, complaint tab, and government action tab in full before any wire.
- The captured pages do not name a Texas office, a Texas hire, a Texas SKU, or an option to store metal at the state chartered Texas Bullion Depository in Leander. What the site offers a Texas reader is a national phone based dealer relationship, not a Texas back office presence (source: wholesaledirectmetals.com pages, checked July 2026).

This is a written review of Wholesale Direct Metals, Inc. for a national reader weighing the company as the dealer behind a self-directed precious metals IRA. A dedicated section below covers what the setup looks like for a Texas resident, since Texas is our home state and a common reader profile.
Every company fact in this review is tied to a specific Wholesale Direct Metals page, captured on July 2026 by way of the Wayback Machine after the live server returned a 403 response to our plain HTTP fetches. Where the site does not publish a figure, we say so plainly rather than fill in a number from a third-party aggregator or from memory.
One posture note. Harry's Coins does not hold an affiliate relationship with Wholesale Direct Metals. We earn nothing if a reader chooses this company, and no reason to route you away either. The review is built from the company's own public pages, cross-checked against IRS, Texas Comptroller, SEC EDGAR, and CFTC references on July 2026.
What Wholesale Direct Metals actually publishes, and what it does not
Fee transparency is the wedge that decides most dealer comparisons. A reader who cannot see the annual cost lines on paper cannot forecast the ten year drag on a $50,000 or $100,000 balance before the first phone call. That is the reason we count the dollar figures each dealer prints on its own pages.
On the captured Wholesale Direct Metals pages, no IRA cost line is quantified in dollars. The account setup fee is not printed. The annual custodian fee is not printed. The annual storage fee is not printed. The precious metals IRA account minimum in dollars is not printed. The coin by coin dealer spread is not printed. The written buy back spread is not printed either (source: wholesaledirectmetals.com home and FAQ pages, checked July 2026).
The chart below counts these disclosures in a scannable form. It is not a judgment. It is a snapshot of what a first-time visitor can verify from the public pages without a phone call.

The table below reproduces the same inventory in text, with the page where each line was checked, so a reader can reopen the source in a separate tab and confirm.

Compiled from a Wayback Machine capture of wholesaledirectmetals.com (Home, FAQ), checked July 2026. "Not on captured pages" means the archived response did not include the figure; it does not mean the figure does not exist in internal Wholesale Direct Metals documents.
Texas gold IRAs charge mostly flat dollar fees (setup, annual custodian, storage). Flat fees take a much bigger bite out of a small account than a large one. Enter your numbers to see the drag. Estimate only. Fee amounts vary by provider and are often not published; enter figures you confirm in writing. This tool ignores metal price changes and the dealer spread, which also affect returns. Not financial advice.Texas gold IRA fee-drag calculator
The "no fees for life" claim, in plain English
The Wholesale Direct Metals home page carries a headline claim worth reading verbatim. The wording is that "most of our clients pay no fees for life while also getting the personal commitments that come from our dedicated team of gold and silver experts" (source: wholesaledirectmetals.com home page, checked July 2026).
Two words in that sentence do the load-bearing work. The first is "most", which admits that some clients pay fees. The second is "clients", which is not the same category as "IRA account holders". A dealer can cover retail purchase fees on cash orders and still charge a self-directed IRA holder every year for the custodian and the depository under a separate contract.
A second line on the same page adds one qualifier. The wording is that "we cover the initial fees for new customers on all qualified precious metal transactions" (source: wholesaledirectmetals.com home page, checked July 2026). The word "initial" carries the meaning here. Setup fees may be covered on the first transaction. Recurring annual fees are a different line.
The correct reading of the "no fees for life" claim is that it is a marketing headline about the retail purchase leg of the relationship. It is not, on its own, a written confirmation that a self-directed IRA holder will owe zero dollars to the trustee and to the depository each year for the life of the account. Ask both figures in writing on the trustee's letterhead before you sign.
The FAQ sentence that names a competitor
The captured Wholesale Direct Metals FAQ page carries a sentence in the section about processing a required minimum distribution. It reads: "First, you let your Lear IRA team member know whether or not you want the physical metals shipped straight to your front door, or if you'd like to receive cash instead". Source: wholesaledirectmetals.com/faq/, Wayback capture dated May 2024.
"Lear" in that sentence refers to Lear Capital, Inc., a separate precious metals dealer also headquartered in the Los Angeles area. The name appears in a paragraph that otherwise reads as if it were describing the Wholesale Direct Metals process. The most plausible reading is that the FAQ copy was drawn from a Lear Capital source at some point and the placeholder was not proofread out before publish.
A single sentence like this does not by itself decide whether a dealer is trustworthy. It does tell a careful reader two things. The first is that the FAQ page was not written from scratch for Wholesale Direct Metals. The second is that a first-time reader cannot rely on the FAQ page as an accurate map of the specific paperwork and personnel for a Wholesale Direct Metals account.
Print a copy of the FAQ for your files. On the first call, ask the specialist to walk through the RMD process for a Wholesale Direct Metals account by name and to confirm in writing that the paperwork does not route through Lear Capital or any other third party. That is the small step that closes the gap on paper.
Delaware Depository is named, the custodian is not
Under Internal Revenue Code Section 408, a self-directed IRA must be administered by a bank, an insured credit union, a savings and loan, or a non-bank trustee approved by the IRS. The dealer that sells the metal is a separate entity. The trustee is the legal holder of the account (source: irs.gov Publication 590-A, checked July 2026).
On the depository side, Wholesale Direct Metals is clear. The captured FAQ page names Delaware Depository as the storage facility and describes the insurance policy as "underwritten by Lloyds of London" through the depository. The FAQ adds that "each and every client account at the Delaware Depository is 100 percent insured for the full value of the metals stored" (source: wholesaledirectmetals.com/faq/, checked July 2026).
On the trustee side, the captured pages fall silent. No self-directed IRA custodian is named. Comparable dealers publish the trustee's legal name up front so a reader can pull that trustee's own fee schedule before the funding call. The absence of a named trustee on the marketing site is not a violation, but it is a paperwork gap a Texas reader should close before wiring any money.
On the first call, ask the specialist to name the trustee in writing on Wholesale Direct Metals letterhead. Request that trustee's most recent fee schedule directly, and check that the trustee is listed in the IRS Publication 590-A guidance on eligible trustees for a self-directed IRA (source: irs.gov Publication 590-A, checked July 2026).
The corporate footprint and how old the company really is
The home page marketing copy states that the company has protected client savings with gold and silver backed IRAs and 401(k)s "for over 15 years" (source: wholesaledirectmetals.com home page, checked July 2026). The most recent captured footer copyright reads "2023 Wholesale Direct Metals Inc." (source: home page footer, Wayback capture dated August 2024).
Read against the 2024 capture date, the "over 15 years" line implies a founding around 2008 or 2009. The captured pages do not name a specific founding year, a specific incorporation date, or a specific founder. A reader who wants a precise incorporation date should search the California Secretary of State business search for "Wholesale Direct Metals" and pull the filed articles from the state record.
The corporate mailing address on the captured home page is 2930 Westwood Blvd, Suite 100, Rancho Park, CA 90064. The company self-describes as a "privately held company based in Southern California". Rancho Park is a small neighborhood on the west side of Los Angeles, close to the Century City and West Los Angeles corridor. This is a real physical address, not a residential post office box (source: wholesaledirectmetals.com home page, checked July 2026).
The footprint fits a small to mid sized privately held dealer running a national phone based operation from a Los Angeles office suite. That is a plain factual statement about size, not a value judgment. A small privately held dealer can serve a Texas reader well, and a large one can serve poorly. What matters is the paperwork the specific account produces.
How Wholesale Direct Metals serves Texas investors
The captured Wholesale Direct Metals pages do not name a Texas office, a Texas hire, a Texas storage facility, or a Texas specific product. Corporate operations point back to the Rancho Park, California mailing address, and the named depository is Delaware Depository, which operates vaults in Wilmington and New Castle, Delaware (source: wholesaledirectmetals.com pages, checked July 2026).
The state chartered Texas Bullion Depository in Leander is not named on the captured pages either. That depository is administered by the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts. It stores gold, silver, platinum, palladium and rhodium, and it is the only state administered and state audited precious metals depository in the United States (source: texasbulliondepository.gov, checked July 2026). If in-state storage inside Texas matters to you, this is the gap to close on the first call.
Texas has no state personal income tax. That is anchored in the Texas Constitution and confirmed at the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts (source: comptroller.texas.gov, checked July 2026). A Texas resident's federal treatment of a precious metals IRA is the same as any other United States resident's federal treatment under Internal Revenue Code Section 408.
The state tax advantage of a Texas residence lands on the withdrawal side of the account, not on the dealer side. A rollover from a Texas 401(k) into a Wholesale Direct Metals facilitated IRA follows the same federal rules that apply anywhere. A California or a New York resident would face a state income tax layer at withdrawal that a Texas resident does not (source: irs.gov Publication 590-A, checked July 2026).
The neutral takeaway for a Texas reader is this. Wholesale Direct Metals does not offer a Texas back office, a Texas branch, or a documented option to route metal to the state chartered Leander depository. What you get is a national phone based dealer relationship with a Delaware storage endpoint. If those constraints are acceptable, the burden of due diligence moves back to the fee sheet, the trustee name, and the coin by coin spread.
The BBB profile question we could not capture
The Better Business Bureau publishes a profile page for accredited and non-accredited businesses at bbb.org. The profile carries the letter grade, the years in business under BBB tracking, the complaint volume in the last three years, and a government action tab that flags publicly disclosed enforcement.
On July 2026, our plain HTTP request to bbb.org for a Wholesale Direct Metals profile returned an anti bot 403 response. The archive service did not hold an accessible profile snapshot on the requested date either. That means we could not independently capture the current BBB letter grade, the complaint tab, or the government action tab for this review.
What we can say is that a BBB rating is not, on its own, a substitute for a written fee sheet, a named trustee, and a named depository. A BBB rating is one signal among several. Open the profile in a normal browser, read the letter grade and the complaint tab in full, and note the date range on the complaints before you draw a conclusion.
The address, phone, and legal name that appear on the Wholesale Direct Metals home page are the identifiers to use when you search bbb.org. If the profile you find lists a different address or a different phone, ask the specialist on the first call to explain the mismatch before you go any further.
The public regulatory record we could check
Every precious metals dealer in the market for a stretch has a public record worth checking before wiring funds. The correct path is to point a reader at the primary regulator records rather than repeat aggregator claims.
A full text search of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission EDGAR system for the exact phrase "wholesale direct metals" returned one document on July 2026. That document was a 2016 Redwood Scientific Technologies S-1 registration statement that mentions the phrase in the context of an unrelated business (source: efts.sec.gov, checked July 2026). No SEC filing directly names the company as a registrant.
A search of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission website for "wholesale direct metals" on July 2026 returned an access blocked response to our plain fetch, so we could not independently confirm the absence of a CFTC record on that date. Recheck the CFTC enforcement page directly at cftc.gov during your own due diligence (source: cftc.gov, checked July 2026).
A search of the Texas State Securities Board enforcement action database on July 2026 returned no page listing Wholesale Direct Metals (source: ssb.texas.gov, checked July 2026). An absence on a specific date is a snapshot, not a permanent guarantee. Records change. Recheck the primary regulator sites at each step of due diligence, including the SEC, the CFTC, the Federal Trade Commission, and the securities regulator of your own state.
How to open a Wholesale Direct Metals precious metals IRA
The captured Wholesale Direct Metals pages describe the account opening sequence in three broad stages: transfer funds, convert to physical metal, ship to a storage facility. That marketing outline is not paperwork. The steps below convert it into a paperwork checklist for a first-time reader.
- Request a written fee schedule from Wholesale Direct Metals by email, on company letterhead. The document should list the account setup fee, the annual custodian fee, the annual storage fee for your expected balance, the coin by coin dealer spread policy, and a written buy back spread. Do not accept a verbal "no fees" answer on a recorded call.
- Ask Wholesale Direct Metals to name the self-directed IRA trustee in writing. Request the trustee's most recent fee schedule directly from that trustee. Cross-check that the trustee is eligible under Internal Revenue Code Section 408 (source: irs.gov Publication 590-A, checked July 2026).
- Confirm the depository in writing. The FAQ names Delaware Depository. If you want the state chartered Texas Bullion Depository in Leander instead, ask in writing whether that arrangement is available and how the trustee will confirm the move (source: texasbulliondepository.gov, checked July 2026).
- Complete the trustee's application with the confirmed trustee. Choose direct trustee to trustee transfer for a 401(k) or an IRA rollover to avoid the 60-day deadline and the 20 percent mandatory withholding that applies to indirect rollovers (source: irs.gov Publication 590-A, checked July 2026).
- After the trustee confirms funds have landed, hold the scheduled pricing call with the account executive. Ask for the dealer spread on each coin quoted. Request that the executive email a coin by coin price sheet immediately after the call so the numbers you agreed to are on paper before any wire moves.
- Route the paperwork so the trustee wires funds to Wholesale Direct Metals. The dealer ships metal to the chosen depository. The depository returns a signed receipt to the trustee showing the exact troy ounces credited to your account number.
- Save the trustee's account statement, the depository receipt, and the Wholesale Direct Metals invoice as one bundled PDF. Request quarterly statements from the trustee and an annual holdings audit. Keep the bundled PDF with your tax records for the year of the rollover.
Balanced pros and cons
What works in Wholesale Direct Metals's favor
- Public corporate mailing address at 2930 Westwood Blvd, Suite 100, Rancho Park, CA 90064 and a customer service phone at (866) 925-6626. That is more identifying paperwork than some sub-scale dealers publish.
- Named depository partner: Delaware Depository, with an insurance policy described as underwritten by Lloyds of London through the depository.
- Marketing headline that "most of our clients pay no fees for life" and that the company "covers the initial fees for new customers on all qualified precious metal transactions". Ask for both claims in writing before signing.
- Buy back guarantee is stated on the home page. The guarantee says the company "will buy back any metals you purchased from us at their current market value", though no written buy back spread is published.
- Stated founding age of "over 15 years" as of the 2024 capture, implying a small to mid sized dealer that has kept a Los Angeles office through at least one full precious metals cycle.
What a careful reader should slow down on
- Zero IRA cost lines are quantified in dollars on the captured pages. The account setup fee, the annual custodian fee, the annual storage fee, the account minimum, the coin by coin dealer spread, and the buy back spread are absent from every captured page.
- No self-directed IRA custodian is named on the captured pages. That is the trustee that legally holds your account, and it must be requested in writing.
- The captured FAQ contains the sentence "your Lear IRA team member", a copy-paste artifact from a competitor page. The FAQ was not written from scratch for Wholesale Direct Metals.
- The "no fees for life" claim uses the word "most", which admits that some clients pay fees. A first-time reader cannot verify from the site alone whether the reader would be in the "most" or in the exceptions.
- No Texas office, no Texas storage option, and no path to the state chartered Texas Bullion Depository in Leander are described on the captured pages.
- The live BBB profile could not be captured by plain HTTP on July 2026 because bbb.org returned an anti bot 403 response. Read the profile directly in a normal browser before deciding.
Verdict: who Wholesale Direct Metals fits, who it does not
Wholesale Direct Metals may fit a reader who is comfortable pricing the entire fee stack over the phone. That reader accepts a Delaware storage endpoint and demands a named trustee in writing before any wire moves. The "no fees for life" claim is treated as a starting negotiation position rather than a written contract.
Wholesale Direct Metals is a harder fit for a reader who wants to price the full first-day drag from the website in an afternoon. The account minimum, the account setup fee, the annual custodian fee, the annual storage fee, and the coin by coin spread are all absent from the captured pages. Those five numbers together decide most of the first-year drag. They must be requested in writing before the funding call.
Wholesale Direct Metals is also a harder fit for a Texas reader who wants metal stored inside Texas at the state chartered Leander depository. That option is not described on the captured pages and would have to be arranged specifically with the account executive, if at all.
Nobody can predict where metal prices will go. Nobody can guarantee that a precious metals IRA will outperform a diversified retirement portfolio. Past performance is not a guarantee of future results. Consult a licensed advisor before making a decision that touches your retirement account.
When a precious metals IRA is the wrong move
Signals that a precious metals IRA is not the right move
A precious metals IRA is a poor fit if the account balance is small enough that fixed annual fees swamp the investment. On a $25,000 balance, an annual custodian and storage combined burden of $200 to $400 is a 0.8 percent to 1.6 percent yearly drag before the dealer spread. That drag compounds each year.
It is a poor fit if the reader expects to draw down the balance within five years. Physical bullion is illiquid at exit. Depositories charge to release metal or to sell it back through the dealer at the prevailing spread. A short holding period magnifies transaction costs.
It is a poor fit if the reader has not first maxed out simpler tax-advantaged buckets. A precious metals IRA is a niche allocation. It is not a substitute for a full retirement plan built with a licensed financial advisor.
It is a poor fit if the reader is convinced by a broad "no fees for life" headline rather than by a written fee sheet, a named trustee, and a named depository. Trust in a dealer belongs to what is on paper.
Frequently asked questions
Is Wholesale Direct Metals a bank, a custodian, or a dealer?
Wholesale Direct Metals, Inc. is a precious metals dealer. It is neither a bank nor a trustee. The self-directed IRA must be administered by an IRS-approved trustee under Internal Revenue Code Section 408 (source: irs.gov Publication 590-A, checked July 2026). No such trustee is named on the captured Wholesale Direct Metals pages, and it should be requested in writing before signing.
How old is Wholesale Direct Metals?
The captured home page states the company has protected client savings "for over 15 years" (source: wholesaledirectmetals.com home page, checked July 2026 via Wayback capture dated August 2024). That claim, read against the capture date, implies a founding of about 2008 or 2009. The captured pages do not name a specific founding year, a specific incorporation date, or a specific founder.
What is the minimum to open a Wholesale Direct Metals precious metals IRA?
The captured Wholesale Direct Metals pages do not publish a specific dollar minimum for a precious metals IRA account. A retail order minimum of $2,500 applies to bank wire transactions, per the captured FAQ (source: wholesaledirectmetals.com/faq/, checked July 2026). That is a retail purchase floor, not an IRA account minimum. Ask for the IRA account minimum in writing on the first call.
Where does Wholesale Direct Metals store the metal?
The FAQ names Delaware Depository as the storage facility and states that insurance is "underwritten by Lloyds of London" through the depository (source: wholesaledirectmetals.com/faq/, checked July 2026). No other depository is named on the captured pages, and the state chartered Texas Bullion Depository in Leander is not among the options described.
What does the "no fees for life" claim really mean?
The captured home page states that "most of our clients pay no fees for life" and that the company "covers the initial fees for new customers on all qualified precious metal transactions" (source: wholesaledirectmetals.com home page, checked July 2026). The word "most" admits that some clients pay fees, and the word "initial" refers to setup rather than to recurring annual charges. Ask both claims in writing on the trustee's letterhead before signing.
Why does the Wholesale Direct Metals FAQ mention "Lear"?
The captured FAQ carries one sentence in the required minimum distribution section that reads "you let your Lear IRA team member know". Source: wholesaledirectmetals.com/faq/, Wayback capture dated May 2024. Lear refers to Lear Capital, Inc., a separate California dealer.
The most plausible reading is that the FAQ copy was drawn from a Lear Capital source and the placeholder was not proofread out before publish. On the first call, ask Wholesale Direct Metals to walk through the RMD process for its own account by name.
What is Wholesale Direct Metals's BBB rating?
Our plain HTTP fetch to bbb.org for a Wholesale Direct Metals profile returned an anti bot 403 response on July 2026, so we could not independently capture the current letter grade, the complaint tab, or the government action tab. Open the profile in a normal browser and read those tabs in full before any wire.
Does Wholesale Direct Metals have a public regulatory record I can check?
An SEC EDGAR full text search for the exact phrase "wholesale direct metals" returned one 2016 filing on July 2026 that referenced the phrase inside an unrelated Redwood Scientific Technologies S-1 document (source: efts.sec.gov, checked July 2026). A Texas State Securities Board enforcement search returned no page listing the company (source: ssb.texas.gov, checked July 2026). Recheck the primary regulator sites directly during your own due diligence.
Does Wholesale Direct Metals serve Texas investors specifically?
The captured pages do not name a Texas office, a Texas hire, a Texas SKU, or an option to store metal at the state chartered Texas Bullion Depository in Leander. The setup is a national phone based relationship with a Delaware storage endpoint (source: wholesaledirectmetals.com pages, checked July 2026). Texas residents get the same federal treatment as any other United States resident under IRC Section 408.
What paperwork should I demand before signing a Wholesale Direct Metals rollover?
Ask for four documents. First, a Wholesale Direct Metals fee sheet on company letterhead listing setup, annual custodian, annual storage, coin by coin dealer spread, and buy back spread. Second, the trustee's legal name and current fee schedule. Third, the depository storage agreement with the annual fee stated in dollars. Fourth, a coin by coin price sheet. Bundle all four into one PDF and store it with your tax records.
