United Gold Group Review
Last updated: July 4, 2026 · By Harry's Coins Editorial
Quick answer: United Gold Group is a small Malibu, California precious metals firm. It sets up self-directed IRAs holding gold, silver, and platinum. Its public site confirms the head office, phone lines, product menu, ICTA membership, and a self-claim of BBB accreditation. It does not publish a fee schedule, an account minimum, a named custodian, a named depository, or a buyback policy. Get every number and partner name in writing before you fund anything.
Short on time? The essentials
- United Gold Group lists its head office at 22619 Pacific Coast Highway, Malibu, CA 90265, with phone lines (866) 930-3832 and (800) 753-8534 (source: unitedgoldgroup.com, checked July 2026).
- The firm sells gold, silver, and platinum, and helps clients set up a self-directed IRA via third-party custodial administrators (source: unitedgoldgroup.com About page, checked July 2026).
- The site self-labels the firm a BBB Accredited Business and an ICTA member. Both are self-reported claims until you check the underlying registries yourself.
- United Gold Group does not publish a fee schedule, an account minimum, a named custodian, a named depository, a buyback policy, or a founding year on its site.
- SEC EDGAR full-text search returns zero filings under the corporate name for the last decade (source: efts.sec.gov, checked July 2026). No public federal securities filings.
- United Gold Group is a national dealer with no Texas office. It ships to Texas customers by mail and phone, with storage arranged via the client's chosen custodian.
- Texas has no state income tax, so a Texas retiree's traditional IRA distribution is taxed only at the federal ordinary income rate.
- Harry's Coins has no affiliate link to United Gold Group. We do not earn a commission on this dealer, and nothing on this page routes you to its site.

The short version of what United Gold Group is
United Gold Group is a boutique Malibu, California precious metals dealer. Its About page lists a single head office at 22619 Pacific Coast Highway, Malibu, CA 90265, and two toll-free lines: (866) 930-3832 and (800) 753-8534 (source: unitedgoldgroup.com About page, checked July 2026).
The firm positions itself as a full-service partner. It sells physical gold, silver, and platinum for direct purchase. It also helps clients open a self-directed IRA and coordinate a rollover from an existing 401(k), 403(b), traditional IRA, annuity, or CD (source: unitedgoldgroup.com About page, checked July 2026).
The site menu references memberships in the Industry Council for Tangible Assets and the Sound Money Defense League. It also runs a podcast called The Gold Show and a branded wildlife giving program. That mix of activity reads more like a small independent shop than a call-center dealer.
United Gold Group is honest about one thing on its About page. It states plainly that the firm is not a licensed financial advisor and does not give financial advice. That framing is worth keeping in mind. You will be talking to a metals salesperson, not to a fiduciary.
What United Gold Group publishes on its own site
The public site is a Wix-hosted brochure. It publishes six things you can act on. It publishes the physical address and two phone lines. It publishes a product menu covering gold, silver, and platinum in coin and bar form. It publishes the general shape of the IRA path, which uses an outside custodial administrator.
The site publishes a corporate email at Corporate@UnitedGoldGroup.com. It publishes a self-claim of BBB accreditation via the menu, and a self-claim of ICTA membership. It publishes a corporate copyright notice dated 2023.
That copyright date is the freshest content signal on the public site as we checked it. It does not confirm the firm is inactive. It does suggest the marketing footprint has not been refreshed recently, which is a data point in itself.
What is missing from the public record
Six items a careful Texas retiree would want to see are not on the public site. There is no fee schedule for a gold IRA, so setup, annual custodian, and annual storage costs are not disclosed. There is no account minimum, so you cannot pre-qualify yourself against the offer.
There is no named custodian partner, so you cannot verify the trust company that will actually hold your IRA. There is no named depository partner, so you cannot verify the vault that will actually hold your metal. Neither of those is a shortcut question. A gold IRA is only as safe as the custodian and the depository behind it, per IRS Publication 590-A rules on trustee-held retirement plans.
There is no buyback policy, so you cannot see the exit price before you commit. There is no founding year for the firm, so you cannot check tenure in the industry. None of these gaps is proof of a problem. All of them are gaps you need to close in writing before you send a rollover check.
Public disclosure scorecard
Below is what our editorial crawl of United Gold Group's site found on the day we checked it. It is a scorecard of what the firm confirms in public versus what a prospective client would need to ask for by phone or email.

Six of twelve items on our checklist are disclosed. Six are not. That is a low transparency floor for a gold IRA relationship. It does not automatically disqualify the firm. It does mean the burden of verification shifts entirely to you.
Public regulatory footprint
A search of the SEC EDGAR full-text index for the corporate name returned zero filings for the last ten years (source: efts.sec.gov full-text search for "united gold group" 2015 to 2026, checked July 2026). That is not a red flag by itself. Precious metals dealers that sell physical bullion and coins are generally not required to file with the SEC.
The FINRA broker-dealer database also does not list United Gold Group as a registered broker-dealer, because a physical metals dealer does not sell securities. Instead, physical metals sales fall under state consumer-protection and precious metals dealer laws. In California, that is the Department of Financial Protection and Innovation and the Attorney General.
What we did not find is a public federal enforcement action against United Gold Group by the SEC, FINRA, or the CFTC in the current EDGAR search window. We did not verify state-level records for you here. Ask the firm in writing for any current or past enforcement action, consent order, or settlement.
Reading the BBB and consumer-review picture
United Gold Group's own website menu labels the firm a "BBB Accredited Business." That is a self-claim on the vendor's own site. The independent verification lives on the BBB profile page itself, which lists the current letter rating, the number of complaints closed in the past 12 and 36 months, and any government-action alerts.
Before you send money, pull the BBB profile directly. Confirm the letter rating, the accreditation status, and the complaint count with your own eyes. Do the same on Trustpilot and Consumer Affairs. Take a screenshot of what you see on the day you check. A vendor's self-claim is a starting point. It is not a substitute for the underlying record.
If a phone rep quotes a rating without a live source link, treat that as a sign to slow the call down. A firm with a clean current record has no reason to be vague about the source.
The likely cost anatomy, using industry ranges
United Gold Group does not publish a fee schedule. We will not invent one for it. What we can do is walk through the four fee buckets every gold IRA quote should show, and the industry ranges other dealers publish for each. Use this as a framework when you call for a quote.
| Fee bucket | Who charges it | Typical published range (US industry, 2024 to 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Account setup | Custodian (one-time) | $50 to $100 |
| Annual account maintenance | Custodian | $75 to $225 |
| Annual storage | Depository, via custodian | $100 to $300 for commingled, $150 to $500 for segregated |
| Dealer spread on the metal | Dealer, at purchase and at buyback | 3% to 30% over spot, product-dependent |
Source: industry-published fee schedules from major IRA custodians (Equity Trust, STRATA, GoldStar), 2024 to 2026 fee pages, referenced in our Gold IRA Fees Explained guide.
The dealer spread on the metal is where you get hurt. It is also where United Gold Group is most opaque, because there is no published pricing page. In a written quote, ask for the exact ounce price on the coin or bar you are buying, on the day of the trade, next to that day's London spot fix.
Texas gold IRA fee-drag calculator
Texas gold IRAs charge mostly flat dollar fees (setup, annual custodian, storage). Flat fees take a much bigger bite out of a small account than a large one. Enter your numbers to see the drag.
Estimate only. Fee amounts vary by provider and are often not published; enter figures you confirm in writing. This tool ignores metal price changes and the dealer spread, which also affect returns. Not financial advice.
How United Gold Group serves Texas investors
United Gold Group is a national dealer headquartered in Malibu, California. Its public site lists no Texas office, no Texas showroom, and no Texas phone line. A Texan buys the same way a Californian does: by phone or email, with metal shipped or vaulted per the client's custodian instructions.
The site does not name the Texas Bullion Depository as a storage partner. It does not name any specific depository. If you want your Texas IRA metal stored inside Texas at the state-run vault in Leander, you will need to ask the firm directly whether it can route your custodian's storage instruction to the Texas Bullion Depository. Get the answer in writing.
Texas has no state income tax, so a traditional IRA distribution taken in Texas is taxed only at the federal ordinary income rate at your bracket (source: Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts, "No State Income Tax," checked July 2026). That helps the after-tax math on a required minimum distribution in retirement. It does not change how a gold IRA is set up or stored.
Two things a Texas retiree should press on. First, does the custodian United Gold Group uses accept the Texas Bullion Depository as an approved vault. Second, does the firm's shipping policy allow signature-required delivery to a Texas residential address for a distribution in kind. Neither is guaranteed. Both are answerable in an email.
Where United Gold Group could work for you
United Gold Group is not a factory. That has a real upside. A boutique dealer with a small office may give you a longer phone call, a slower sales cadence, and a single point of contact through the entire rollover. For a retiree who wants to talk to the same person twice, that is worth something.
The ICTA membership is a small positive signal. The Industry Council for Tangible Assets is a trade body whose members subscribe to a code of conduct on numismatic and bullion sales. It is not a regulator. It is a peer accountability layer. Verify the current membership on the ICTA member directory, since the site menu is a self-claim.
The firm's willingness to work with an outside custodial administrator is also normal, not novel. That is the standard structure for a self-directed IRA. The value is in which custodian and which depository your account actually ends up at. Get both names in the written quote.
Reading United Gold Group's sales approach
We did not test United Gold Group's sales calls for this review, and we do not have call transcripts to cite. What we can offer is a public-record checklist. Read the three warning patterns the FTC has flagged for precious metals dealers, then match them against your own call notes (source: Federal Trade Commission, "Investing in Bullion and Bullion Coins," consumer alert, checked July 2026).
Watch for a coin upsell. If the salesperson pushes numismatic or "proof" coins with a large premium over spot in place of a standard IRA-eligible American Gold Eagle or American Gold Buffalo, ask why. The premium is the profit and it does not travel with the metal at buyback.
Watch for a "free silver" or promotional bar attached to an IRA opening. The promotion is a discount that comes out of a higher effective spread on the main purchase, per the FTC alert. Watch for pressure to close the wire the same day. Legitimate IRA rollovers do not run on a countdown.
A written-quote checklist before you open an account
Six items to get in writing before you fund a United Gold Group IRA
- Named custodian. Ask for the exact legal name of the trust company that will hold your self-directed IRA. Confirm it is one of the IRS-approved non-bank trustees on the current list (source: IRS Publication 590-A, Individual Retirement Arrangements, checked July 2026).
- Named depository. Ask for the exact vault operator that will store your metal. Confirm the vault is an approved storage facility your custodian recognizes. Ask whether commingled or segregated storage applies.
- Complete fee schedule. Ask for the setup fee, the annual custodian fee, the annual storage fee, and any wire or shipping fees. Ask that each be shown as a dollar amount, not a range.
- Exact metal pricing. Ask for the per-ounce price on the specific coin or bar you are buying, on the day of the trade, next to that day's London spot fix. That gives you the dealer spread in one number.
- Written buyback policy. Ask whether the firm will buy the metal back, at what discount to spot, and within what turnaround time. If the answer is a shrug, treat that as your exit-price disclosure.
- Cooling-off window. Ask for the written window during which you can cancel the trade without a penalty. California and several other states impose specific consumer-protection windows on precious metals sales.
When any small-office dealer is the wrong pick
A small metals dealer is not the right vehicle for every Texas retiree. Under about $50,000 of investable retirement balance, the fixed fees above eat too much of your return. That threshold comes from the FINRA Investor Alert on precious metals and IRAs (source: FINRA, "Investor Alert: Gold Stocks," checked July 2026).
If you need liquidity inside the next three to five years, physical metal in a vault is a slow instrument. You will pay a dealer spread on the way in and another discount on the way out, and the whole cycle costs time.
If you are not eligible for a rollover, no reputable dealer can help. Rollover eligibility runs from IRS Publication 590-A, not from a sales script. If a phone rep says you are eligible without asking about your plan document, plan type, and separation status, that is a red flag, per IRS guidance on qualified plan rollovers.
Keep your account in a low-cost broad-market plan for your spouse or heirs, not in a boutique metals sleeve with high fixed costs. That is the safest default for anyone under the $50,000 floor.
Common questions about United Gold Group
Is United Gold Group a real company?
Yes. Its head office is at 22619 Pacific Coast Highway, Malibu, CA 90265, with phone lines (866) 930-3832 and (800) 753-8534 (source: unitedgoldgroup.com About page, checked July 2026). It is a small, family-run precious metals dealer. Real is not the same as the right fit for your account.
What is United Gold Group's BBB rating?
The firm's own website menu labels it a "BBB Accredited Business." We did not fetch a live letter rating from bbb.org for this review. Pull the current profile directly on bbb.org before you fund an account, and confirm the letter rating and complaint count with your own eyes.
What is United Gold Group's account minimum?
Not publicly disclosed on the firm's site. Ask by phone or email and get the answer in writing before you sign. Many small dealers set a soft minimum in the $10,000 to $50,000 range, but the number matters only when it is in writing.
What fees does United Gold Group charge?
Not publicly disclosed on the firm's site. The four fee buckets you should ask about are custodian setup, annual custodian maintenance, annual depository storage, and the dealer spread on the metal itself. See the industry-range table above for context.
Does United Gold Group work with the Texas Bullion Depository?
Not stated on the public site. Ask directly. The answer depends on which custodian United Gold Group uses for your account, since it is the custodian who instructs storage. If you want your metal held in Texas, get that in the written quote.
Is United Gold Group registered with the SEC?
An SEC EDGAR full-text search returned zero filings under the corporate name for the last ten years (source: efts.sec.gov, checked July 2026). Physical bullion dealers are not required to file with the SEC. That absence is normal for the business type.
Can I visit United Gold Group in person in Texas?
Not according to its public site. United Gold Group lists one office at 22619 Pacific Coast Highway, Malibu, California. A Texas customer transacts by phone, email, and mail, with the metal shipped or vaulted per the custodian's instructions.
Does Harry's Coins earn a commission on United Gold Group?
No. We hold no affiliate relationship with United Gold Group, we send no traffic to its site, and we earn nothing if you choose it. This review is based on public record and our own crawl of the firm's site, checked July 2026.
