Short on time? The essentials
- Account minimum: Augusta prints 50,000 dollars on augustapreciousmetals.com/gold-ira/ (checked July 2026). Goldco does not print any minimum on its public gold IRA page at goldco.com/gold-ira/. Independent industry summaries commonly report a 25,000 dollar Goldco minimum; confirm the current figure with a Goldco specialist before you sign anything.
- Custodian: Augusta names Equity Trust Company on its Gold IRA page. Goldco does not name a custodian on its public gold IRA page.
- Depository: Augusta names Delaware Depository as the recommended vault and lists Shiner and Dallas among Texas storage cities in its FAQ. Goldco does not name any depository partner on its public gold IRA page.
- Published recurring cost: Augusta prints a typical annual custodian range of 75 dollars to 150 dollars and a typical annual storage range of 100 dollars to 150 dollars. Goldco prints no fee schedule on any public page.
- Marketing offer: Goldco publishes a silver bonus promotion of up to 10 percent in bonus silver on qualifying purchases, per goldco.com (checked July 2026). Augusta does not run a comparable bonus metal promotion.
- Corporate identity: Augusta operates from 8484 Wilshire Boulevard, Suite 515, Beverly Hills, California, with a secondary office in Casper, Wyoming. Goldco operates from Calabasas, California, per its own contact page at goldco.com.
- BBB record: Augusta references A+ letter rating with BBB accreditation since 2014. Goldco references A+ letter rating on its own pages, per goldco.com (checked July 2026); confirm the current status on bbb.org yourself.
- Texas storage: Neither dealer publishes a standing partnership with the state administered Texas Bullion Depository in Leander. Augusta names Shiner (Texas Precious Metals Depository) and Dallas in its FAQ. Goldco does not name any Texas venue on public pages we captured.
- Texas has no state personal income tax on IRA distributions (per comptroller.texas.gov, checked July 2026). Fee drag inside the account matters more here than in a high tax state.

The head to head at a glance
Augusta Precious Metals and Goldco are two of the most searched gold IRA dealers among Texas readers. Both are California based. Both work exclusively by phone, with no Texas walk in office. Both hold A+ letter ratings referenced on their own websites. Beyond those surface parallels, the two dealers diverge on almost every material dimension a Texas retiree cares about.
The single biggest difference is public disclosure. Augusta prints its minimum, its custodian, its recommended depository, and a typical annual fee range for both custodian and storage lines on one public page. Goldco does none of that on its public gold IRA page. Goldco leads with a silver bonus offer, a 1 day IRA setup claim, and a guaranteed highest buyback promise instead.
The second difference is intake structure. Augusta funnels every prospect through an educational web conference with Director of Education Devlyn Steele before any buy discussion. Goldco routes prospects to a precious metals specialist quickly, often on the same day, and pairs the intake with the silver bonus offer where the account tier qualifies.
The third difference is marketing signal. Augusta leans on Money magazine naming it Best Overall Gold IRA Company and on Joe Montana as a customer ambassador. Goldco leans on celebrity endorsements from personalities such as Chuck Norris and Sean Hannity, per goldco.com (checked July 2026). Neither set of testimonials changes the fee stack or the metal you receive.

Public disclosure scorecard, side by side
Public disclosure is the wedge for this comparison. We scored both dealers on five printed items a Texas retiree needs before an intake call: account minimum, custodian name, depository name, annual custodian fee, and annual storage fee. Augusta prints all five. Goldco prints zero.

Read the scorecard carefully. Zero printed items does not mean Goldco has no fee schedule. It means the fee schedule is not on the public gold IRA page. It is quoted by a specialist on the intake call and confirmed in the account application paperwork before the first buy. That is a normal industry pattern; it is also less friendly to a reader who wants to compare dealers from a SERP result.
Augusta prints its 50,000 dollar minimum on the Gold IRA page. It names Equity Trust Company as custodian and Delaware Depository as the recommended vault on the same page. It also prints a typical annual custodian range of 75 to 150 dollars and a typical annual storage range of 100 to 150 dollars. All five items sit on augustapreciousmetals.com/gold-ira/, checked July 2026 via Wayback.
A Texas reader working from public pages alone can build a rough fee model at Augusta before ever picking up the phone. The same reader has no fee model to work from at Goldco until a specialist quotes the numbers. That gap is the honest wedge for this comparison. It is not a scam claim on either side; it is a different disclosure choice.
Account minimum and who each dealer fits
Augusta prints a 50,000 dollar minimum on the Gold IRA page and repeats the figure on How Gold IRA Companies Make Money (per augustapreciousmetals.com/gold-ira/ and augustapreciousmetals.com/how-gold-ira-companies-make-money/, both checked July 2026 via Wayback). That number is a real gate. A saver with less than 50,000 dollars in a rollover eligible retirement account is redirected at intake.
Goldco does not print a minimum on its public gold IRA page. Industry summaries commonly report a 25,000 dollar Goldco account minimum, but that figure is not on the public page we captured. The only public size gate is the silver bonus tier. It requires 50,000 dollars or more in qualifying purchases for the 5 percent band, and 100,000 dollars or more for the 10 percent band, per goldco.com (checked July 2026).
The practical read for a Texas retiree in three balance bands. Below 25,000 dollars, neither dealer is likely to open the account; Augusta prints 50,000 dollars as a hard gate and Goldco is commonly reported at 25,000 dollars. Between 25,000 dollars and 50,000 dollars, Goldco is often the only option, and the account tier sits below the silver bonus threshold.
Above 50,000 dollars, both dealers are on the table. Goldco's silver bonus applies at this band. Augusta enrolls the account and runs the education first intake. Above 100,000 dollars, Goldco's 10 percent silver bonus band is active, and Augusta continues to enroll at its standard tier without an equivalent bonus metal offer.
Custodian: named at Augusta, unnamed at Goldco
Augusta names Equity Trust Company as the paired self directed IRA custodian on its Gold IRA page. Equity Trust is a South Dakota chartered non depository trust that holds legal title to the metal on your behalf under IRC 408(a)(2). The Equity Trust retail Fee Schedule (Rev. 110625) is public as a PDF linked at trustetc.com/fees/.
That schedule is a printed price tag for the custodian portion of an Augusta account. On the 50,000 to 99,999 dollar tier, which is Augusta's entry band, the retail schedule prints 425 dollars per year. On the 100,000 to 199,999 dollar tier it prints 500 dollars, on the 200,000 to 299,999 tier it prints 700 dollars, and at 2 million dollars and above it prints 2,250 dollars per year.
Augusta's own printed range of 75 to 150 dollars per year for the custodian line sits below every Equity Trust retail tier. That means Augusta either subsidizes the difference or holds a negotiated private schedule that differs from the printed retail sheet. Ask in writing which schedule applies to your specific account before you sign anything.
Goldco does not name a custodian on its public gold IRA page. The custodian is disclosed on the intake call and named in the account application paperwork. There is no way to model the custodian line at Goldco from public pages alone. Ask the specialist to email the custodian name and the full fee schedule before you agree to any transfer paperwork.
Two friction fees on any custodian schedule are worth noting at rollover and at final liquidation. Wire fees, full account termination fees, and per asset partial termination fees are set by the custodian, not the dealer. Get each line in writing at both dealers before you commit to a transfer.
Storage and depository choice in Texas
Augusta names Delaware Depository as the recommended vault on its Gold IRA page. Augusta's FAQ lists eleven storage locations, verbatim: "Los Angeles, CA; Salt Lake City, UT; Nampa, ID; Las Vegas, NV; Shiner, TX; Dallas, TX; South Fargo, ND; Wilmington, DE, Bridgewater, MA; New Castle, DE; and New York, NY." The FAQ closes with "Please ask us for a current list" (per augustapreciousmetals.com FAQ via Wayback capture May 2025).
Shiner is Texas Precious Metals Depository, a privately owned commercial vault. Dallas is served by International Depository Services in Irving. Neither is the state administered Texas Bullion Depository in Leander. Augusta does not list Leander on any public page we captured in July 2026.
Goldco does not name a depository partner on its public gold IRA page. Prior public references and specialist quotes have described Delaware Depository, Brink's, and International Depository Services as options at Goldco, but none of those partnerships is documented on the current goldco.com gold IRA page we captured. Ask the Goldco specialist to email the depository name and city before you agree to storage.
Neither dealer prints a standing partnership with the Texas Bullion Depository in Leander. The Texas Bullion Depository is the only state administered precious metals depository in the United States. It was authorized by House Bill 483, signed by Governor Greg Abbott on June 12, 2015. It sits on a 10 acre campus in Leander (per texasbulliondepository.gov and comptroller.texas.gov/programs/depository/, both checked July 2026). Day to day operations are run by Lone Star Tangible Assets under contract with the state.
If Leander storage is your primary requirement, neither Augusta nor Goldco prints it as a standard option. A Texas reader who wants specifically the state administered vault should ask both dealers in writing whether they will accommodate Leander on request, and compare their answers.
Dealer spread and the silver bonus math
The dealer spread is the difference between the spot price of the metal and the price the dealer charges you for the same coin or bar. It is paid twice on any physical metal IRA: once at buy, and again on the way out through the buyback channel. Neither Augusta nor Goldco prints a percent figure or a per coin price on any public page we captured in July 2026.
Goldco publishes a silver bonus tier that changes the true first year cost math. The published tiers are 5 percent bonus silver on qualifying purchases at 50,000 dollars or more, and 10 percent bonus silver on qualifying purchases at 100,000 dollars or more, per goldco.com (checked July 2026). The bonus is paid in Goldco premium coins, not in industry benchmark bullion products.
Two things about the silver bonus deserve careful reading. First, Goldco premium coins typically carry a wider dealer spread than industry benchmark bullion. A 10 percent bonus of coin priced at a 40 percent premium is not the same as a 10 percent bonus on 100 dollar per ounce spot silver. Ask the specialist to email both the number of ounces you will receive and the per ounce spot price for the bonus metal on the day of the quote.
Second, the qualifying purchase base is set by Goldco. Whether the qualifying purchase is calculated on the full transfer amount, on a subset, or on a specific coin package is not printed on the public page and should be confirmed in writing. Both these variables change the true dollar value of the bonus and therefore the year one effective spread.
At Augusta, there is no bonus metal component. The dealer spread is quoted straight on the specific coin the specialist proposes, on the day of the buy call. Ask for the per coin price and, in the same call, ask what the current spot price is. The gap is your buy spread at Augusta.
Want the fee framework in a printable format before you call anyone?
If you have at least 50,000 dollars in a rollover eligible retirement account, Augusta Precious Metals publishes a free gold IRA company checklist that walks through the fee questions to ask any dealer. We may earn a commission if you open an account. It has no effect on what you pay.
Buyback: two very different promises
Both dealers describe a resale channel back to themselves. The framings are different. Augusta's Gold IRA page describes buyback support without printing a fee schedule or a legally guaranteed price. Goldco markets a highest buyback guarantee on goldco.com (checked July 2026), positioned as a signature promise rather than an incidental service.
Neither statement means the sell side dealer spread is zero. A highest buyback promise, at either dealer, is a marketing claim that the dealer will pay a competitive price versus other dealers on the same day, not that the dealer will pay spot. The buyback price is what the dealer will pay for the coin, which is below the same day spot by whatever spread the dealer holds on that product on that day.
The round trip cost, buy price minus buyback price, is the number that actually matters at exit. Ask each specialist for the same day buyback quote on the exact coin the specialist is offering on the buy call. Keep the emailed answer. The gap between the buy price and the buyback price is your true round trip dealer cost, not the framing on either dealer's public page.
Goldco premium coins can be harder to sell back to a third party dealer than industry benchmark bullion. The highest buyback promise makes most economic sense within Goldco's own ecosystem, on Goldco's own coin lineup. That is worth pricing at the moment of the buy call, not at the moment of the sell call.
Trust signals: BBB record and public identity
Both dealers hold public BBB profiles. Augusta Precious Metals is listed at the Beverly Hills regional bureau with A+ letter rating and BBB accreditation since 2014, per the profile referenced on augustapreciousmetals.com and confirmed via bbb.org. Goldco references A+ letter rating on its own pages and describes itself as A+ Rated by the BBB, per goldco.com (checked July 2026). Confirm the current BBB status on bbb.org yourself.
Both dealers use celebrity marketing. Augusta features Joe Montana as a customer testimonial and cites Money magazine naming it Best Overall Gold IRA Company. Its founding year is 2012 per its home page; CEO is Isaac Nuriani and Director of Education is Devlyn Steele (per augustapreciousmetals.com/about/, checked July 2026).
Goldco features celebrity endorsers including Chuck Norris and Sean Hannity on its public pages, per goldco.com. Goldco describes itself as founded in 2006 in the Los Angeles area and headquartered in Calabasas, California, per its contact page. The company reports a customer count in industry copy that is not corroborated by an independent regulator database; SEC EDGAR full text search returns no filings for the exact phrase Goldco Direct, which is normal for a privately held company.
Both dealers rely on non public compensation disclosures for their sales staff. Augusta's public copy describes an education first intake with salaried educators. Goldco's public copy names a precious metals specialist role and does not state whether specialists are salaried, commissioned, or paid on a mix. Ask each dealer directly on the first call.
Texas taxes and why fee drag matters more here
Texas has no state personal income tax on wages or on retirement account distributions (per comptroller.texas.gov, checked July 2026). Article 8, Section 24 of the Texas Constitution prohibits one without a statewide referendum. A California retiree taking a 30,000 dollar required minimum distribution pays California ordinary income tax on top of federal tax. A Texas retiree taking the same 30,000 dollar RMD pays federal only.
That state tax gap changes what matters inside the account. In a high tax state, the state income tax swamps almost every fee line. In Texas, there is no state income tax to swamp; the fee stack you signed at intake is a larger share of your net outcome over ten or twenty years.
Two identical rollovers, one in Dallas and one in Los Angeles, end up with different net balances after twenty years primarily because the state tax differential is zero in Texas. The practical effect for this comparison: fee transparency matters more in Texas than in New York, California, or Oregon.
Between the two dealers on this page, Augusta prints five items of hard fee context on one public page. Goldco prints none. A Texas retiree working from public pages alone has more concrete numbers to hold on to at Augusta. A Texas retiree willing to take an intake call at Goldco can get the same numbers, but only by phone.
How to compare the two on your specific rollover
Comparison at the SERP level is limited by what each dealer publishes. Comparison at the intake call level is not. The four line fee stack (setup, annual custodian, annual storage, dealer spread on buy) is the same set of questions at both dealers. Ask each specialist the same eight questions and put the answers in a two column spreadsheet before you sign anything.
- Confirm the account minimum at each dealer. Augusta will confirm 50,000 dollars. Ask Goldco directly and get the current minimum in email, since it is not printed on the public gold IRA page. Do not rely on third party summaries alone.
- Ask for the one time setup fee, split. Get the dealer intake fee and the custodian application fee at each dealer. Confirm which line is refundable if you cancel before the first purchase. Augusta names setup as a cost layer without a printed figure; Goldco does not print a setup fee on any public page.
- Ask for the custodian name and annual custodian fee at your account tier. Augusta names Equity Trust Company on the public page; cross reference the retail schedule (Rev. 110625) at trustetc.com/fees/. Goldco does not print a custodian name; get the name plus the fee schedule in email before you sign.
- Ask for the depository name and the annual storage fee, by venue. Get a specific number for Delaware Depository, for IDS Irving, and for Shiner if either dealer offers it. Confirm whether the depository bills separately from the custodian and whether segregated storage adds an annual increment.
- Ask for the per coin buy price and same day spot at each dealer. Do this on the exact coin the specialist proposes. The gap is your buy spread at that dealer. Get the same coin priced at both dealers for a true side by side.
- Ask for the same day buyback quote on the same coin at each dealer. The gap between the buy price and the buyback price is your round trip dealer cost. Compare the round trip cost at each dealer, not just the buy leg.
- If Goldco offers you the silver bonus, price the bonus in ounces and in spot dollars. Ask for the exact number of ounces you will receive, the specific coin used, and the per ounce spot price for silver on the day of the quote. Then compare that dollar value against the dealer spread you will pay on the base purchase.
- Compute the ten year total at each dealer. Sum: setup once, plus ten years of custodian, plus ten years of storage, plus buy spread once, minus the dollar value of any bonus metal. The lower ten year total on the same account tier is your fee cheaper dealer for a Texas rollover.
Texas gold IRA fee-drag calculator
Texas gold IRAs charge mostly flat dollar fees (setup, annual custodian, storage). Flat fees take a much bigger bite out of a small account than a large one. Enter your numbers to see the drag.
Estimate only. Fee amounts vary by provider and are often not published; enter figures you confirm in writing. This tool ignores metal price changes and the dealer spread, which also affect returns. Not financial advice.
Worked example: 100,000 dollar Houston rollover, both sides
Worked example
Take a Houston resident, age 62, rolling a 100,000 dollar former employer 401(k) into a precious metals IRA. On the Augusta side, the account is above the 50,000 dollar minimum. On the Goldco side, the account qualifies for the 10 percent bonus silver tier per goldco.com. The dealer spread on the chosen coin package is not published by either dealer; the specialist quotes 5 percent in writing on the intake call at both dealers for the purpose of this walkthrough.
At Augusta, at the published Equity Trust retail rate for the 100,000 to 199,999 dollar tier, annual maintenance is 500 dollars. Non segregated storage at Delaware Depository adds 110 dollars per the Equity Trust Fee Schedule (Rev. 110625). Setup online is 50 dollars. Year one custodian and storage lines: 660 dollars.
Add a 5 percent buy spread on 100,000 dollars, which is 5,000 dollars. Year one total at retail Equity Trust rate: 5,660 dollars, or roughly 5.7 percent of the transfer amount.
Augusta's own printed range of 75 to 150 dollars custodian and 100 to 150 dollars storage sits below the retail Equity Trust tier. If Augusta subsidizes the difference at intake, the year one custodian and storage total could fall to roughly 225 to 300 dollars instead of 660 dollars. Ask in writing which schedule governs your specific account.
At Goldco, no custodian and no storage fee is printed on the public page. Assume comparable retail Equity Trust economics at the same 100,000 to 199,999 dollar tier: 500 dollars custodian, 110 dollars storage, similar setup line. That is roughly 660 dollars in year one custodian and storage lines at retail rate. The specialist may quote lower, higher, or a private schedule; get the numbers in email.
Now apply the silver bonus. On a 100,000 dollar qualifying purchase, the 10 percent bonus silver tier delivers a claimed 10,000 dollars in silver in Goldco premium coins.
If those coins carry a 40 percent dealer spread versus spot silver, the true spot value of the bonus is roughly 6,000 dollars, not 10,000. If they carry a 25 percent spread, the true spot value is roughly 7,500 dollars. Both scenarios still favor Goldco versus no bonus at all, but by less than the headline number.
Add the same 5 percent buy spread on the base 100,000 dollars, which is 5,000 dollars. Year one total at Goldco: roughly 5,660 dollars in custodian, storage, and dealer spread, minus 6,000 to 7,500 dollars in true silver spot value. Net year one effective cost: roughly negative 340 to negative 1,840 dollars, meaning the silver bonus overshoots the year one cost stack if the spread on the bonus silver is not extreme.
Two things drive the outcome. First, the silver bonus math depends heavily on the dealer spread on the bonus silver, which is not printed. Second, Augusta's true year one cost depends on whether Augusta subsidizes the Equity Trust retail tier. Both variables need to be in email before you sign anything. Texas readers pay no state income tax on the distribution side, so the year one cost is fee drag, not tax. Consult your tax advisor for your specific situation.
When Augusta is the better fit
Augusta is the better fit for a Texas retiree with 50,000 dollars or more in a rollover eligible account who values printed fee context and structured education before a buy conversation. The 50,000 dollar minimum is a real gate. It filters out the smaller account tier where fee drag is hardest to justify and gives Augusta a more predictable buyer profile.
Augusta is also the fit for a reader who wants a named custodian and a named depository on public pages before an intake call. Both are printed on augustapreciousmetals.com/gold-ira/. A reader who prefers to model the fee stack on paper before agreeing to any phone conversation has a clean starting point at Augusta.
Augusta is also the fit for a reader who dislikes bonus metal promotions on principle. There is no silver bonus and no coin bundle sweetener attached to an Augusta intake. The trade off is that Augusta enrolls at the printed fee stack and the negotiated coin spread, without a promotional metal offset.
Augusta's public marketing leans on a Joe Montana customer testimonial and on being named Best Overall Gold IRA Company by Money magazine. Neither claim changes the fee stack, the custodian, or the metal you actually receive. They function as brand comfort signals at the top of the funnel. Weigh them accordingly.
If Augusta fits your account tier and profile:
You can request the Augusta Precious Metals free gold IRA company checklist before your intake call. It is designed for readers with 50,000 dollars or more in a rollover eligible retirement account. We may earn a commission if you open an account. It has no effect on what you pay or on our editorial position.
When Goldco is the better fit
Goldco is the better fit for a Texas reader whose rollover balance sits below the 50,000 dollar Augusta gate, because Augusta will not enroll that account tier. The public gold IRA page at goldco.com does not print a minimum. Industry summaries commonly report a 25,000 dollar Goldco minimum; a specialist call will confirm the current figure in writing.
Goldco is also the fit for a reader who values a bonus metal promotion at the 50,000 dollar or 100,000 dollar tier, and who will price the bonus in ounces and spot dollars before accepting it. The 10 percent bonus silver tier can offset most or all of the year one fee stack when the dealer spread on the bonus silver is priced conservatively.
Goldco is also the fit for a reader who wants a quick specialist call rather than a preliminary education conference. The 1 Day IRA framing on goldco.com describes a same day setup path from intake to account opening. That speed is a feature for a decisive buyer and a friction for a buyer who wants a slower education first flow.
When neither is right for you
Situations where neither Augusta nor Goldco is the right choice for you.
If your rollover balance is below 25,000 dollars, neither dealer will likely open the account at their current minimums. Even below 50,000 dollars, the effective annual fee percent on the account before any dealer spread is high enough that the wrapper is the wrong tool at that size.
If you expect to need liquidity in the next three to five years, the dealer round trip spread on physical metal is a real cost. A stock or bond IRA does not carry that cost. A 5 percent buy and a 3 percent sell spread is 8 percent gone before any metal price move.
Selling a coin back to a dealer is not the same as clicking sell on an exchange traded fund. This is true at Augusta, at Goldco, and at any dealer in this segment. A highest buyback promise at Goldco is not a legal price guarantee; it is a commitment to a competitive price on the day.
If you want your IRA metal stored at home, neither dealer can help. The 2021 US Tax Court ruling in McNulty v. Commissioner (157 T.C. No. 10) confirmed that home storage of IRA metal is treated as a full taxable distribution, with tax plus penalty due immediately. If holding coins at home matters more than the tax wrapper, buy physical gold directly outside an IRA.
If your funds are not rollover eligible, the intake call is a waste. A defined benefit pension in payment status, an active employee 401(k) balance below the in service rollover age, or a Texas Employees Retirement System monthly annuity are not eligible funds. Confirm eligibility with your plan administrator before you engage either dealer. Consult your tax advisor for your specific situation. Nobody can predict where metal prices will go.
Frequently asked questions
Which dealer publishes more on its public gold IRA page, Augusta or Goldco?
Augusta Precious Metals prints five items on its Gold IRA page. Three are named: the 50,000 dollar account minimum, the Equity Trust Company custodian, and the recommended Delaware Depository. Two are numeric: a typical annual custodian fee range of 75 to 150 dollars, and a typical annual storage fee range of 100 to 150 dollars.
Goldco does not print any of those five items on its public gold IRA page. Goldco leads with a silver bonus promotion, a 1 Day IRA setup claim, and a highest buyback guarantee instead.
Does Goldco publish a minimum on its public gold IRA page?
No. The current goldco.com gold IRA page we captured in July 2026 does not print a minimum figure. Industry summaries commonly report a 25,000 dollar Goldco minimum. The only public size gate visible on goldco.com is the silver bonus tier, which requires 50,000 dollars or more in qualifying purchases for the 5 percent bonus silver band and 100,000 dollars or more for the 10 percent band. Confirm the current minimum with a Goldco specialist in writing.
How does the Goldco silver bonus actually work in dollar terms?
Goldco publishes two bonus silver tiers on goldco.com. Qualifying purchases at 50,000 dollars or more unlock a 5 percent bonus silver band. Qualifying purchases at 100,000 dollars or more unlock a 10 percent bonus silver band. The bonus is paid in Goldco premium coins, not in industry benchmark bullion.
Ask the specialist for the exact number of ounces you will receive, the per ounce spot price on the day of the quote, and how the qualifying purchase base is calculated on your specific transfer.
Do Augusta and Goldco name a custodian on their public pages?
Augusta names Equity Trust Company on its Gold IRA page. Goldco does not name a custodian on its public gold IRA page. At Augusta, the Equity Trust retail Fee Schedule (Rev. 110625) linked at trustetc.com/fees/ governs the custodian portion of the account, unless Augusta holds a private schedule that differs from the printed retail sheet. At Goldco, the custodian is disclosed on the intake call and named in the account application paperwork.
Do either Augusta or Goldco store metal at the Texas Bullion Depository in Leander?
Neither dealer prints a standing partnership with the state administered Texas Bullion Depository in Leander on public pages we captured in July 2026. Augusta's FAQ names Shiner (Texas Precious Metals Depository) and Dallas (International Depository Services Irving) among its Texas storage cities. Goldco does not name a Texas storage venue on the public gold IRA page. Ask both dealers in writing whether they will accommodate the Leander vault on request.
How does the dealer spread compare between Augusta and Goldco?
Neither dealer prints a percent figure for the dealer spread on any public page we captured. The spread is quoted on the intake call, on the specific coin the specialist proposes. Goldco premium coins typically carry a wider spread than industry benchmark bullion. That matters when Goldco pairs the coin lineup with the silver bonus promotion.
Ask each dealer to price the same coin on the same day, and get both the per coin buy price and the same day buyback quote in email.
What does the Goldco highest buyback guarantee actually promise?
The highest buyback framing on goldco.com is a marketing claim that Goldco will pay a competitive price versus other dealers on the same day. It is not a legal guarantee to pay spot. It is not a fixed price on any specific coin.
The round trip cost, buy price minus buyback price, is the number that actually matters at exit. Ask for the same day buyback quote on the exact coin at the moment of the buy call, and keep the emailed answer.
Do Augusta and Goldco have Texas sales offices?
No. Augusta operates from a Beverly Hills headquarters at 8484 Wilshire Boulevard, Suite 515, with a secondary office in Casper, Wyoming at 5830 East 2nd Street. The public phone is 1-800-700-1008. Goldco operates from a Calabasas, California headquarters per its contact page at goldco.com. Every Texas customer at either dealer opens the account by phone.
Are there Texas specific fees on an Augusta or Goldco gold IRA?
No. Texas has no state personal income tax on IRA distributions (per comptroller.texas.gov, checked July 2026). Neither dealer charges a Texas specific fee. Storage at Shiner, at Dallas, or at any out of state depository does not change the fee schedule. Fee drag inside the account is the main friction for a Texas retiree at either dealer, not state tax on the way out.
How do I request each dealer's full fee schedule in writing?
At Augusta, request the intake call and ask for the four line fee schedule to be sent to your email before you sign anything. At Goldco, request the specialist call at the number listed on goldco.com and ask for the same schedule.
In both cases, request five items in writing. Ask for minimum confirmation, one time setup and wire fee split, annual custodian fee at your account tier, annual storage fee by depository, and buy spread plus same day buyback on your chosen coin.
