Short on time? The essentials
- Account minimum: Augusta prints 50,000 dollars on augustapreciousmetals.com/gold-ira/ (checked July 2026). Birch prints 5,000 dollars as the initial purchase minimum on birchgold.com/precious-metals-ira/ (checked July 2026).
- Custodian: both dealers name Equity Trust Company on their public IRA pages. Birch also names GoldStar Trust Company as an available second option.
- Published recurring cost: Augusta prints a typical annual custodian range of 75 dollars to 150 dollars and a typical annual storage range of 100 dollars to 150 dollars. Birch prints a flat 125 dollars annual management plus a flat 110 dollars annual storage and insurance, for a combined 235 dollars per year regardless of account size.
- One time setup: Birch prints 50 dollars for account setup and 30 dollars for the incoming rollover wire. Augusta names setup as one of four cost layers but does not print a specific dollar figure on the public Gold IRA page.
- Rollover promotion: Birch states that transfers above 50,000 dollars have the first year of fees covered by Birch. Augusta does not publish an equivalent waiver.
- Texas storage: Birch names both the state administered Texas Bullion Depository in Leander and the privately owned Texas Precious Metals Depository in Shiner on its own pages. Augusta lists Shiner and Dallas among storage cities in its FAQ but does not name Leander on public pages.
- Dealer spread: neither dealer prints a percent figure on any public page. The spread is quoted on the intake call, on the specific coin the specialist proposes.
- Texas has no state personal income tax on IRA distributions (per comptroller.texas.gov, checked July 2026). Fee drag inside the account is the main friction for a Texas retiree at either dealer, not state tax at distribution.

The head to head at a glance
Augusta Precious Metals and Birch Gold Group are both national precious metals dealers with a paired self directed IRA product. Both name Equity Trust Company as the IRA custodian on their public pages. Both handle Texas customers by phone rather than through a Texas walk in office.
The two dealers differ on four material dimensions for a Texas retiree. First, Augusta prints a 50,000 dollar minimum and typical annual fee ranges on its public page. Birch prints a 5,000 dollar initial purchase minimum, exact flat annual fees, and a fee waiver on transfers above 50,000 dollars.
Second, Augusta funnels every intake through an educational web conference with Director of Education Devlyn Steele. Birch pairs each customer with a Precious Metals Specialist and does not publicly disclose whether specialists are salaried or commissioned. Third, Birch names the state administered Texas Bullion Depository in Leander as an approved storage venue on its own page. Augusta does not list Leander on any public page we captured.
Fourth, Augusta markets on published fee structure and a Joe Montana customer testimonial. Birch markets on flat pricing and a low entry minimum. Neither dealer publishes a dealer spread percent on any coin. The four line fee stack, confirmed in writing before the buy direction, is what actually decides the outcome at either dealer.

Public fee disclosure, side by side
The single biggest difference at the SERP level is how each dealer prints its fee schedule. Augusta prints a typical range on two annual lines. Birch prints exact flat dollar figures on four lines: setup, wire, storage and insurance, and management.

Read the numbers carefully. Augusta's printed 75 dollar to 150 dollar custodian range sits well below the retail Equity Trust tier for the same account band. Equity Trust prints 425 dollars per year on the 50,000 to 99,999 tier, per the Equity Trust Fee Schedule Rev. 110625 at trustetc.com/fees/, checked July 2026. Ask which schedule applies to your specific account before you sign anything.
Birch's flat 235 dollar figure is unusually specific for the industry, and it is the same number regardless of whether the IRA holds 50,000 dollars or 500,000 dollars. On a 50,000 dollar account, 235 dollars is about 470 dollars per 100,000 dollars, or roughly 0.47 percent per year. On a 250,000 dollar account, the same 235 dollars is roughly 0.09 percent per year. Flat pricing favors the larger balance.
Account minimum and who each dealer fits
Augusta prints a 50,000 dollar minimum on the Gold IRA page and repeats the figure on How Gold IRA Companies Make Money (per augustapreciousmetals.com/gold-ira/ and augustapreciousmetals.com/how-gold-ira-companies-make-money/, both checked July 2026 via Wayback). That number is a real gate. A saver with less than 50,000 dollars in a rollover eligible retirement account is redirected at intake.
Birch prints a 5,000 dollar initial purchase minimum on its Precious Metals IRA page. Below 5,000 dollars, the account is not opened. Above 50,000 dollars in a qualifying transfer, Birch states that it covers the first year of fees. That waives 235 dollars in year one, plus the 50 dollar setup and 30 dollar wire if those are also waived at the account tier.
The practical read for a Texas retiree in three balance bands. Below 25,000 dollars, the fixed annual fee at Birch is 0.94 percent per year or more of the account before any dealer spread; Augusta is not available. Between 25,000 dollars and 50,000 dollars, Birch is available and Augusta is not; the flat 235 dollar figure at Birch is 0.47 percent to 0.94 percent per year of the account, still meaningful drag.
Above 50,000 dollars, both dealers are on the table. Birch's first year waiver applies, and Augusta enrolls the account at its standard tier. The fee comparison inside the account is close on paper at the 50,000 dollar to 250,000 dollar range. The deciding factors move to depository routing, education format, and the dealer spread quoted on the specific coin.
Custodian: the same Equity Trust schedule under both
Both dealers name Equity Trust Company as the paired self directed IRA custodian on their public pages. Equity Trust is a South Dakota chartered non depository trust that holds legal title to the metal on your behalf under IRC 408(a)(2). The Equity Trust Fee Schedule (Rev. 110625) is public as a PDF linked at trustetc.com/fees/.
That schedule is the closest thing to a printed price tag on the custodian portion of either account. The retail schedule tiers annual maintenance by account value. It starts at 225 dollars per year under 15,000 dollars and rises through several account bands as the balance grows.
On the 50,000 to 99,999 dollar tier, which is the Augusta entry band, the retail schedule prints 425 dollars per year. On the 100,000 to 199,999 dollar tier it prints 500 dollars, on the 200,000 to 299,999 tier it prints 700 dollars, and at 2 million dollars and above it prints 2,250 dollars per year.
The custodian line will be the same at both dealers for the same account value tier, unless the dealer has negotiated a private schedule that differs from the printed retail sheet. Birch's flat 125 dollar annual management figure sits below every published Equity Trust tier; ask Birch in writing which schedule governs your account and whether Birch subsidizes the difference at intake.
Two friction fees on the same schedule are worth noting at rollover and at final liquidation. Equity Trust lists 30 dollars per domestic or international wire transfer, 250 dollars for a full account termination, 100 dollars per asset for a partial termination, and 50 dollars per in kind transfer or distribution. These are the same at both dealers because they belong to the custodian, not the dealer.
Storage and depository choice in Texas
Both dealers work with a network of IRS approved depositories. The two networks overlap on Delaware Depository. They diverge on Texas.
Augusta's FAQ lists eleven storage locations, verbatim: "Los Angeles, CA; Salt Lake City, UT; Nampa, ID; Las Vegas, NV; Shiner, TX; Dallas, TX; South Fargo, ND; Wilmington, DE, Bridgewater, MA; New Castle, DE; and New York, NY." The FAQ closes with "Please ask us for a current list" (per augustapreciousmetals.com FAQ, verified via Wayback capture May 2025). Shiner is Texas Precious Metals Depository, a private commercial vault. Dallas is served by International Depository Services in Irving.
Birch names five approved storage venues on its Precious Metals IRA page. The list covers Delaware Depository Service Company in Wilmington, and Brink's Global Services in New York, Los Angeles and Salt Lake City. It also covers International Depository Services in Delaware, Texas Precious Metals Depository in Shiner, and the Texas Bullion Depository in Leander. Birch also publishes a dedicated page for the Texas Bullion Depository at birchgold.com/precious-metals-ira/storage/texas-bullion-depository/. That page confirms the arrangement pairs with Equity Trust.
The Leander vault is the meaningful Texas difference. The Texas Bullion Depository is the only state administered precious metals depository in the United States. It was authorized by House Bill 483, signed by Governor Greg Abbott on June 12, 2015. It sits on a 10 acre campus in Leander (per texasbulliondepository.gov and Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts, comptroller.texas.gov/programs/depository/, both checked July 2026). Day to day operations are run by Lone Star Tangible Assets under contract with the state.
Birch names Leander as an approved storage venue. Augusta does not list Leander on any public page we captured in July 2026. If Leander storage is your primary requirement, Birch is the printed match; Augusta might accommodate the vault on request, but the arrangement is not documented on public pages.
Dealer spread: the fee neither dealer publishes
The dealer spread is the difference between the spot price of the metal and the price the dealer charges you for the same coin or bar. It is paid twice on any physical metal IRA: once at buy, and again on the way out through the buyback channel. Neither Augusta nor Birch prints a percent figure or a per coin price on any public page we captured in July 2026.
Spread ranges vary widely by product category. Common American Gold Eagle coins carry a lower typical spread than proof editions or exclusive coins. Non numismatic bars typically carry the tightest spread. Any dealer, either of these included, can quote a specific number for a specific product on a specific day; that is what the intake call produces.
Two rules keep the dealer spread honest at either dealer. First, ask the specialist for the per coin price and, in the same call, ask what the current spot price is. The gap is your spread. Second, ask for the same day buyback quote on the exact coin the specialist is offering. The round trip cost, buy price minus buyback, is your true dealer cost for holding through a sale cycle at that specific dealer.
Spread is the largest first year fee line for most buyers, so treating it as a phone quote at both dealers is the right frame. A 5 percent spread on a 150,000 dollar buy is 7,500 dollars, larger than ten years of custodian and storage combined at the published Equity Trust rate. If a specialist at either dealer will not put the spread in email, that itself is data.
Buyback: two different framings, one shared reality
Both dealers describe a resale channel back to themselves. The framings differ. Augusta's Gold IRA page describes buyback support without printing a fee schedule or a legally guaranteed price. Birch advertises a buyback offer where a Precious Metals Specialist provides an up to date buy back quote at any time (per birchgold.com/precious-metals-ira/, checked July 2026), again without a legal price guarantee.
Neither statement means the sell side dealer spread is zero. The buyback price is what the dealer will pay for the coin, which is below the same day spot by whatever spread the dealer holds on that product on that day. The round trip cost, buy price minus buyback price, is the number that actually matters at exit.
The right comparison at the buy moment is the same for both dealers. Ask for the same day buyback quote on the coin you plan to buy, at the time of the buy call, and keep the emailed answer. The gap between the buy price and the buyback price is your round trip dealer cost, not the framing on either dealer's public page.
Trust signals: BBB record and public identity
Both dealers hold public BBB profiles. Augusta Precious Metals is listed at the Beverly Hills regional bureau with A+ letter rating and BBB accreditation since 2014, per the profile referenced on augustapreciousmetals.com and confirmed via bbb.org. Birch Gold Group is listed at the Des Moines bureau at profile 0664-32155 with A+ letter rating and BBB accreditation since November 14, 2011, per the profile referenced on birchgold.com/complaints-record/ and confirmed via bbb.org.
Confirm both BBB profiles yourself before signing anything. BBB data updates without notice, and a snapshot from a specific month can move in either direction by the time you read this. The letter rating, the accreditation date, and the ratio of reviews to complaints on file are the three fields worth checking side by side.
The two dealers use different public marketing signals. Augusta features Joe Montana as a customer testimonial, and its own copy describes Money magazine naming it Best Overall Gold IRA Company. Its founding year is 2012 per its home page; CEO is Isaac Nuriani and Director of Education is Devlyn Steele (per augustapreciousmetals.com/about/, checked July 2026).
Birch cites Business Consumer Alliance in addition to BBB on its complaints record page, and reports helping more than 40,000 customers since 2011 as its own claim (per birchgold.com/the-birch-difference/, checked July 2026). The customer count is Birch's self reported figure and we could not corroborate it against an independent database. SEC EDGAR full text search returns zero filings for the exact phrase Birch Gold Group (per efts.sec.gov, checked July 2026), which is normal for a private company.
Both dealers rely on non public compensation disclosures for their sales staff, with different framings. Augusta's public copy describes an education first intake with salaried educators. Birch's public copy names a Precious Metals Specialist role and does not state whether specialists are salaried, commissioned, or paid on a mix. Ask each dealer directly on the first call.
Texas taxes and why fee drag matters more here
Texas has no state personal income tax on wages or on retirement account distributions (per comptroller.texas.gov/taxes/publications/98-1010.php, checked July 2026). Article 8, Section 24 of the Texas Constitution prohibits one without a statewide referendum. A California retiree taking a 30,000 dollar required minimum distribution pays California ordinary income tax on top of federal tax. A Texas retiree taking the same 30,000 dollar RMD pays federal only.
That state tax gap changes what matters inside the account. In a high tax state, the state income tax swamps almost every fee line. In Texas, there is no state income tax to swamp; the fee stack you signed at intake is a larger share of your net outcome over ten or twenty years.
Two identical rollovers, one in Dallas and one in Los Angeles, end up with different net balances after twenty years primarily because the state tax differential is zero in Texas. The practical effect for this comparison: fee transparency matters more in Texas than in New York, California, or Oregon.
Between the two dealers on this page, Birch prints exact flat annual figures and Augusta prints typical ranges. A Texas retiree working from public pages alone has more concrete numbers to hold on to at Birch. A Texas retiree willing to attend the Augusta education conference gets a fuller fee walkthrough at the intake stage.

How to compare the two on your specific rollover
Comparison at the SERP level is limited by what each dealer publishes. Comparison at the intake call level is not. The four line fee stack (setup, annual custodian, annual storage, dealer spread on buy) is the same set of questions at both dealers. Ask each specialist the same eight questions and put the answers in a two column spreadsheet before you sign anything.
- Confirm the account minimum at each dealer. Augusta will confirm 50,000 dollars. Birch will confirm 5,000 dollars and, on rollovers above 50,000 dollars, will confirm the first year fee waiver. Get both in writing.
- Ask for the one time setup fee, split. Get the dealer intake fee and the Equity Trust application fee at each dealer. Birch prints 50 dollars for setup and 30 dollars for the incoming wire. Augusta names setup as a cost layer without a printed figure. Confirm which line is refundable if you cancel before the first purchase.
- Ask for the annual custodian fee at your account tier. Cross reference against the Equity Trust retail schedule (Rev. 110625) at trustetc.com/fees/. If the specialist at either dealer quotes a figure that differs from the printed tier for your account value, ask why in writing.
- Ask for the annual storage fee, by depository. Get a specific number for Delaware Depository, for IDS Irving, for Shiner, and for Leander at Birch. Confirm whether the depository bills separately from Equity Trust and whether segregated storage adds an annual increment.
- Ask for the per coin buy price and same day spot at each dealer. Do this on the exact coin the specialist proposes. The gap is your buy spread at that dealer. Get the same coin priced at both dealers for a true side by side.
- Ask for the same day buyback quote on the same coin at each dealer. The gap between the buy price and the buyback price is your round trip dealer cost. Compare the round trip cost at each dealer, not just the buy leg.
- Ask about Texas depository routing at each dealer. Birch prints Leander (Texas Bullion Depository) as an approved venue. Ask Augusta in writing whether it will accommodate the Leander vault on request. Neither dealer applies a Texas specific fee.
- Compute the ten year total at each dealer. Sum: setup once, plus ten years of custodian, plus ten years of storage, plus buy spread once. The lower ten year total on the same account tier and the same coin package is your fee cheaper dealer for a Texas rollover.
Texas gold IRA fee-drag calculator
Texas gold IRAs charge mostly flat dollar fees (setup, annual custodian, storage). Flat fees take a much bigger bite out of a small account than a large one. Enter your numbers to see the drag.
Estimate only. Fee amounts vary by provider and are often not published; enter figures you confirm in writing. This tool ignores metal price changes and the dealer spread, which also affect returns. Not financial advice.
Picking a company that explains every fee up front is the first step. Get the free gold IRA company checklist.
Worked example: 150,000 dollar Dallas rollover, both sides
Worked example
Take a Dallas resident, age 63, rolling a 150,000 dollar former employer 401(k) into a precious metals IRA. The custodian is Equity Trust on both sides. The dealer spread on the chosen coin package is not published by either dealer; the specialist quotes 5 percent in writing on the intake call at both dealers for the purpose of this walkthrough.
At Birch, the transfer qualifies for the first year fee waiver because it is above 50,000 dollars. Year one custodian and storage lines: 0 dollars, per the Birch waiver. Add a 5 percent buy spread on 150,000 dollars, which is 7,500 dollars. Year one total: 7,500 dollars, or roughly 5.0 percent of the transfer amount. Year two forward: 235 dollars flat per year in Birch's published fees, ignoring any Equity Trust tier increases the account may see.
At Augusta on the same tier, at the published Equity Trust retail rate, the custodian line breaks out as follows. Setup online is 50 dollars. Annual maintenance on the 100,000 to 199,999 dollar tier is 500 dollars. Segregated storage adds 160 dollars per the Equity Trust Fee Schedule (Rev. 110625). That is 710 dollars in year one custodian and storage lines.
Add the same 5 percent buy spread on 150,000 dollars, which is 7,500 dollars. Year one total at Augusta at the published Equity Trust retail rate: 8,210 dollars, or roughly 5.5 percent of the transfer amount.
Two things drive the year one gap. First, Birch's 50,000 dollar plus waiver. Second, the printed Augusta typical range sits below the published Equity Trust retail tier. Augusta prints 75 to 150 dollars per year for the custodian line and 100 to 150 dollars per year for storage. The true Augusta year one fee depends on the schedule Augusta negotiates with Equity Trust for your account. Ask in writing whether Augusta subsidizes the difference.
Year two forward, the picture converges. Birch charges a flat 235 dollars per year regardless of account size. Augusta at the Equity Trust retail tier prints 500 dollars maintenance plus 110 dollars non segregated storage, or 610 dollars per year at this tier, again subject to any Augusta private schedule. Ten years of custodian and storage at these rates: 2,350 dollars at Birch versus roughly 6,100 dollars at Augusta on retail, before any Augusta negotiated discount.
The dealer spread swamps both totals. A 5 percent spread on 150,000 dollars is 7,500 dollars, larger than either dealer's ten year fee stack. Texas readers pay no state income tax on the distribution side, so the entire year one cost is fee drag, not tax. Consult your tax advisor for your specific situation.
When Augusta is the better fit
Augusta is the better fit for a Texas retiree with 50,000 dollars or more in a rollover eligible account. The typical Augusta reader values a structured education format and a single public marketing identity. The 50,000 dollar minimum is a real gate. It also filters out the smaller account tier where fee drag is hardest to justify.
Above that gate, the one on one educational web conference with Director of Education Devlyn Steele is a signature Augusta offering. It does not add a fee to the account.
Augusta is also the fit for a reader who wants a documented salaried education first intake, rather than a specialist model whose compensation structure is not publicly disclosed. Readers who value structured education before writing a check tend to rank this format highly. Readers who want to skip the education and just get a quote may find it slow.
Augusta's public marketing leans on a Joe Montana customer testimonial and on being named Best Overall Gold IRA Company by Money magazine. Neither claim changes the fee stack, the custodian, or the metal you actually receive. They function as brand comfort signals at the top of the funnel. Weigh them accordingly.
If Augusta fits your account tier and profile:
You can request the Augusta Precious Metals free gold IRA company checklist before your intake call. It is designed for readers with 50,000 dollars or more in a rollover eligible retirement account. We may earn a commission if you open an account. It has no effect on what you pay or on our editorial position.
When Birch Gold Group is the better fit
Birch is the better fit for a Texas reader whose rollover balance sits between 5,000 dollars and 50,000 dollars, because that is the account tier Augusta does not enroll. Birch's 5,000 dollar initial purchase minimum is at the low end for the industry and opens the account to smaller rollovers than Augusta will accept.
Birch is also the fit for a Texas resident who wants IRA metal stored specifically at the state administered Texas Bullion Depository in Leander. Birch names Leander as an approved storage venue on its own pages. Augusta does not list Leander on any public page we captured. If Leander is your primary storage requirement, Birch is the printed match.
Finally, Birch is the fit for a reader who wants flat, exact fee figures rather than typical ranges. Birch prints 50 dollars for setup, 30 dollars for the wire, 125 dollars for annual management, and 110 dollars for annual storage and insurance. The flat 235 dollars per year does not scale with account value, which favors larger balances even more than mid sized ones on a percent of assets basis.
When neither is right for you
Situations where neither Augusta nor Birch is the right choice for you.
If your rollover balance is below 5,000 dollars, neither dealer will open the account. Birch prints a 5,000 dollar initial purchase minimum, and Augusta prints a 50,000 dollar minimum. Below 10,000 dollars, even Birch's flat 235 dollars annual fee is 2.35 percent per year of assets before any dealer spread; the wrapper is the wrong tool at that size.
If you expect to need liquidity in the next three to five years, the dealer round trip spread on physical metal is a real cost. A stock or bond IRA does not carry that cost. A 5 percent buy and a 3 percent sell spread is 8 percent gone before any metal price move.
Selling a coin back to a dealer is not the same as clicking sell on an exchange traded fund. This is true at Augusta, at Birch, and at any dealer in this segment.
If you want your IRA metal stored at home, neither dealer can help. The 2021 US Tax Court ruling in McNulty v. Commissioner (157 T.C. No. 10) confirmed that home storage of IRA metal is treated as a full taxable distribution, with tax plus penalty due immediately. If holding coins at home matters more than the tax wrapper, buy physical gold directly outside an IRA.
If your funds are not rollover eligible, the intake call is a waste. A defined benefit pension in payment status, an active employee 401(k) balance below the in service rollover age, or a Texas Employees Retirement System monthly annuity are not eligible funds. Confirm eligibility with your plan administrator before you engage either dealer. Consult your tax advisor for your specific situation. Nobody can predict where metal prices will go.
Frequently asked questions
Which dealer has a lower gold IRA minimum, Augusta or Birch Gold?
Birch Gold Group prints a 5,000 dollar initial purchase minimum on its Precious Metals IRA page. Augusta Precious Metals prints a 50,000 dollar minimum on its Gold IRA page. Birch is available at a substantially smaller account size than Augusta, and Birch also states that transfers above 50,000 dollars qualify for a first year fee waiver.
Do Augusta and Birch Gold use the same IRA custodian?
Yes, as the default pairing. Both dealers name Equity Trust Company as the paired self directed IRA custodian on their public IRA pages. Birch also names GoldStar Trust Company as an available second option. The Equity Trust retail Fee Schedule (Rev. 110625) linked at trustetc.com/fees/ governs the custodian portion of an account opened at either dealer, unless the dealer has negotiated a private schedule.
Which dealer publishes a clearer fee schedule on its website?
Birch publishes exact flat dollar figures for each recurring fee line. The lines are 50 dollars for setup, 30 dollars for the incoming wire, 125 dollars per year for management, and 110 dollars per year for storage and insurance. The combined recurring total is a flat 235 dollars per year.
Augusta publishes typical ranges: 75 to 150 dollars per year for custodian and 100 to 150 dollars per year for storage. Augusta does not print a specific dollar setup fee on the public page. Neither dealer publishes a dealer spread percent on any coin.
Do either Augusta or Birch Gold store metal at the Texas Bullion Depository in Leander?
Birch does. Birch names the state administered Texas Bullion Depository in Leander as one of five approved storage venues on its Precious Metals IRA page. It also publishes a dedicated Leander storage page confirming the arrangement with Equity Trust. Augusta does not list Leander on any public page we captured in July 2026. Augusta's FAQ names Shiner and Dallas among its Texas storage cities.
How does the dealer spread compare between the two dealers?
Neither dealer prints a percent figure for the dealer spread on any public page we captured. The spread is quoted on the intake call, on the specific coin the specialist proposes. To compare honestly, ask each dealer to price the same coin on the same day, and get both the per coin buy price and the same day buyback quote in email. The gap between buy price and buyback price is your round trip dealer cost at that specific dealer.
Does Birch really cover the first year of fees on transfers over 50,000 dollars?
That is Birch's own published statement on its Precious Metals IRA page (checked July 2026). The waiver applies to qualifying rollover transfers only, and the exact terms should be confirmed with the assigned Precious Metals Specialist and captured in email before you sign the account application. Promotional terms can be revised.
Do Augusta and Birch Gold have Texas sales offices?
No. Augusta operates from a Beverly Hills headquarters at 8484 Wilshire Boulevard, Suite 515, with a secondary office in Casper, Wyoming at 5830 East 2nd Street. The public phone is 1-800-700-1008. Birch operates from a Des Moines corporate address at 309 Court Avenue, Suite 809, Iowa 50309, with a public phone at (800) 355-2116. Every Texas customer at either dealer opens the account by phone.
Are there Texas specific fees on an Augusta or Birch Gold gold IRA?
No. Texas has no state personal income tax on IRA distributions (per comptroller.texas.gov, checked July 2026). Neither dealer charges a Texas specific fee. Storage at Shiner, at Leander, or at IDS Irving keeps the metal inside Texas physical borders but does not change the fee schedule. Fee drag inside the account is the main friction for a Texas retiree at either dealer, not state tax on the way out.
How do I request each dealer's full fee schedule in writing?
At Augusta, request the intake call and ask for the four line fee schedule to be sent to your email before you sign anything. At Birch, request the free info kit and the Specialist call at (800) 355-2116, and ask for the same schedule.
In both cases, request five items in writing. Ask for minimum confirmation, one time setup and wire fee split, annual custodian fee at your account tier, annual storage fee by depository, and buy spread plus same day buyback on your chosen coin.
